The New Pattern Shop!

October 26, 2010

I went shopping recently for some digital scrapbooking backgrounds and elements, and one of the stores I bought from had this automatic download thing which made shopping there incredibly awesome. Oh man, I wanted to go back and buy some more just so I could get my stuff instantly…

And suddenly I needed that for my shop!

I found a place called getdpd.com . They had good rates, and the tester looked really good. It was quick, looked professional, was totally customizable and looked user friendly. A big bonus for little old technically challenged me!

I spent all day today uploading and creating, very much like Flint Lockwood on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs when he was building his machine…

And finally my New Pattern Shop was born.

See it up on the top menu tab thingys? Oh it’s so cool. Here’s a breakdown of the neato features:

– One click shopping cart
– Fast, no hassle and secure payments through Paypal. Accepting all major credit cards.
– Immediate downloading of your purchased patterns! No more waiting around for emails! YAY!
– Start sewing in minutes!

Yeah… Start sewing right away…

Is that cool or is that cool? Oh! I can also now offer discounts! Oh man that makes me so so happy.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Etsy. There is so much great information and amazing resources there for crafty business makers. I think they’re amazing and I am definitely keeping my Etsy Store. But they do have a few limitations which, for pattern sellers, presents a bit of stumbling block for handling any moderate volume of sales. Immediate downloading being numero uno.

So I’m fairly certain that I’ve set every thing up properly. But yeesh, you never really know until someone tries it out right? If you end up buying something, could you please come back and tell me about it in the comments section under the store? One thing I hummed and hawed over was having a new page pop up when you click on the little pattern picture to see the detailed listing. I found out that if you click add to cart from that page, and then just close the page to continue shopping, your shopping cart stays intact. Otherwise, I found I had to keep clicking the back button forever to get back to the main shop. Anyway, click around, I’ve love to know what you think!

Oh and speaking of discounts…

Have you seen the new blog Quilty Giveaways yet? A little birdy told me that Norma will be interviewing “someone” later on today (Oct 27th) and will announce a special little giveaway and discount for her blog followers! Go go! Go check and see if she’s posted it yet!

This sounds like a great system, Sonja! I hope it all goes well once people start to buy their patterns. Instant download sounds like the way to go!
